Major Outage Work at Michigan Mine – Completed July 2013

Description

This outage consisted of a plant wide 24 hour water down, plant wide power down affecting about 50% of our work areas that lasted for 3 Days and an equipment down that lasted for 3 Days in the concentrator and 6 Days in the pellet plant. All of these outages started at the same time and all of the work was completed at once. We performed over 11,500 man hours of work without a single incident or injury to the equipment or personnel. We were able to maintain a very aggressive schedule that was set by the customer and completed 100% of the work assigned to our company and also an extra 5,000+ hours that other contractors could not man. Extreme care was taken performing all hot work due to lack of fire water. Temporary lighting was required due to no power in sections of the building. Temperatures and humidity during this outage were both very high, extreme care was taken to prevent any heat stroke or exhaustion to personnel.

 

Tasks Completed:
*Completed work in over 20 confined spaces.
*Completed (5) rock barn feeder insert replacements (this was 2 more than what was scheduled).
*Completed repairs to 12 apron feeders below rock barn this included structural steel repair and 100+ wear plate replacement.
*Replaced valves (manual and air actuated) and piping throughout the entire concentrator varying in size from 3/4” to 24” in diameter.
*Performed conveyor repairs throughout the plant that varied from roller replacement,  head, bend, take up and tail pulley replacement, structural steel replacement, belt  replacement and alignment, skirting replacement and adjustment and bearing  replacements.
*Made structural iron repairs throughout concentrator and (1) dust collector.
*Inspected and replaced grate return shaft bearings on one of the units.
*Installed new dead beds in the cooler to help with dust control and make the equipment  more efficient.
*Replaced/ leveled 1/3 of the cooler dump rail and leveled the remaining 2/3 of rail on one of the units.
*Performed misc. preventative maintenance work to the cooler on one of the units.
*Repaired all of the leaks on the water jacket on one of the coolers.
*Inspected and made the necessary repairs to the grate dust valves on one of the units.
*Installed ports in the precipitator stacks for EPA testing devices.
*Installed Refractory clips in duct work throughout the plant and on the underside of the  stack cap.

Major Unit Repair at a Michigan Mine – Completed January 2012

Description

Project consisted of Inspection and replacement of grate deadbeds, inspect & replace all grate wheels, rollers, shafts, bearings, and seals. Removal and replacement of Windbox Grizzlies, removal and replacement of down comer piping, replacement of approx. 1,100 grate castings, and miscellaneous door repairs on grate. Project also included a large amount of structural steel replacement and repairs on stack cap.

 

Precipitator Duct Repairs at a Michigan Mine – Completed August 2011

Description

Project consisted of extensive sidewall replacement to precipitator ducts.
Installed baffle wall, Grate tail sprocket change out, Grate cyclone dust valve replacement, and replacement of the kiln discharge seal.

 

Major Repair Unit 2 at Michigan Mine – Completed October 2011

Description

Project consisted of repairs to feed end of kiln. Feed end and discharge end seal replacements, changed out pinion bearings, complete drive train alignment, completely disassembled and reassembled entire coal mill, changed out bent pulleys, head pulleys, tail pulleys, and carrying rollers for load out conveyor system.

 

Reclaim Building Structural Steel & Equipment Install – Chisholm, MN – Completed December 2012

Description

Iron Ore Tailings Processing Facility Reclaim Building; Installation of Structural Steel, Apron Feeder, Sumps and Pumps, Primary Screens, Grizzly, 36″ Primary Screen Feed and Oversize Conveyors with all components, 48″ Grizzly Oversize Conveyor, Chutes, Guarding, Skirting, Handrail, Platforms, Stairs, Railings, Kickboard, Grout, Man Doors, Wall Sheeting, Insulation, and Inner Wall Liner for the Remote Feed Building.

  

 

Portside Driveline Repair, Tug Victory – Escanaba, MI – Completed April 2011

Description

Project consisted of Removal and installation of new portside driveline, which included shaft, prop & both bearings. Made up and installed new coupling bolts. IMS performed all alignment.

 

USCG Mini-Dockside Repair – Port Huron, MI – Completed June 2011

Description

Project consisted of removal, inspection, and replacement of the controllable pitch propeller blade, removal and replacement of CPP blade seal, and OD box modification and repair. Replacement of the CPP blade seals was performed underwater.

 

Pellet Reclaim System Hopper Foundation at a Minnesota Mine – Completed September 2011

Description

Project consisted of the removal of conveyor 22Z and discharge chute to specified location, verify and modify grade as required, provided all equipment, labor and materials to prepare site for installation of the foundations, installation of the foundations, fabrication and installation of structural steel and reinstall conveyor 22Z and Feed Hoppers.

  

 

Pellet Silo Repair at a Minnesota Mine – Completed November 2011

Description

Project consisted of repairing cracked and failing concrete on its pellet storage silos. Structures are in excess of 50 years old and were in need of general refurbishment. Repairs required were small areas of loose material requiring replacement and cracks requiring epoxy injection. Work scope encompassed supply and installation of all materials required which included structural steel, rebar, anchors, concrete, epoxy, grout, primer, paint, etc.

 

 

#1 Rod Mill Load at a Minnesota Mine – Completed June 2010

Description

Project consisted of loading #1 Rod Mill Shell & Heads for machining work.

 

Section 6 Ball & Regrind Mill Relocation at a Minnesota Mine – Completed September 2010

Description

Project consisted of three separate scopes of work including moving the existing 12A ball mill to the 6B ball mill location in the Concentrator. Removal of existing regrind mill located in the West Pellet Plant, reconditioning of mill, moving to the maintenance area in the Concentrator and reinstallation. Removal and installation of Section 6 regrind mill liners.

 

Replace Bypass Stacks & Expansion Joints at a Minnesota Mine – Completed June 2010

Description

Replacing four (4) Bypass Stacks and Expansion Joints in the Pellet Plant:
A) Furnace 11 Waste Gas Bypass Stack,
B) Furnace 11 Hood Exhaust Bypass Stack,
C) Furnace 12 Hood Exhaust Bypass Stack, and
D) Furnace 5 Waste Gas Bypass Stack.
The work scope involved dismantling and removal of the existing Stack and Joint materials and the installation of the new system.

 

 

#2 Pan Feeder Replacement at a Minnesota Mine – Completed June 2010

 

Description

Replacement of the #2 Pan Feeder in the Crusher at Silver Bay due to high tonnage and the need for updating the existing pan feeder.  Project included: Demolition of the existing pan feeder, installation of new Metso Pan Feeder, alignment of gear box to pan feeder,
installation of new liners, fabrication and replacement of new guarding, dust contentment/inspection doors, and floor decking.

Headrace & Tailrace Gate refurbishment Soo Locks
