Construct New Clinical Lab
This was a project that involved adding 18,050 square feet of new building to provide a new Clinical Laboratory space for the facility. The existing structure was reinforced, and the new space was added on top of an existing two-story building. The interstitial space allowed for all mechanical and electrical work to be coordinated in its own space and not in a tight above ceiling space. Precise coordination was required to get all mechanical and electrical systems through the coordinated sleeves in the interstitial floor. Two new AHU’s, three new exhaust fans, and a new walk-in cooler were installed along with all new electrical, plumbing, architectural, and structural systems. In addition, all new equipment required mechanical and electrical rough in that was coordinated throughout the entire project with the VA engineering department and IMS management. The large open lab space will allow multiple departments to work within the same area while also providing new office spaces, meeting areas, restrooms, and patient care space. Working above and beside the existing facility required close and continuous coordination between the VA engineering department and IMS management to ensure patient safety, staff safety, and infection control requirements.
